What you need
- A photo slate or rigid blank made for sublimation
- A mirrored sublimation print with bleed
- Heat press and clean protective paper
- Heat-resistant pad and gloves
Step-by-step
1
Create the layout
Measure the usable face, add generous bleed and keep important details away from the rough edge.
2
Inspect the blank
Check for cracks, coating damage and identify the printable face.
3
Prepare the transfer
Mirror the artwork and secure it so it cannot move across the rigid surface.
4
Support and protect
Use the supplier-recommended pad and clean protective paper to distribute contact safely.
5
Press as directed
Follow the slate or décor supplier’s settings without excessive pressure.
6
Cool safely
Wear heat protection and cool the blank on a stable heat-safe surface before adding stands or fittings.
Common problems
| Problem | Likely cause | Try this |
|---|---|---|
| White edge appears | Artwork bleed is too small | Extend the background beyond the slate |
| Blank cracks | Pressure or thermal shock is excessive | Use correct support and gradual cooling |
| Image has pale patches | Contact is uneven | Check the pad and blank orientation |
