What you need
- A light-coloured polyester cap suitable for sublimation
- A mirrored sublimation print
- Cap press or suitable curved pressing attachment
- Protective paper and heat-resistant tape
Step-by-step
1
Prepare the artwork
Size the design for the printable front panel and mirror it before printing.
2
Shape the cap
Fit the cap smoothly over the base and pull the sweatband or lining away from the pressing area.
3
Pre-press briefly
Remove moisture and flatten the printable panel without scorching the fabric.
4
Position the transfer
Centre the design, place it face-down and secure it carefully.
5
Press the panel
Use the product supplier’s starting settings and ensure the heated element contacts the panel evenly.
6
Remove and cool
Lift the transfer cleanly and leave the cap supported in shape while it cools.
Common problems
| Problem | Likely cause | Try this |
|---|---|---|
| Pale patch near seam | Uneven contact | Move the design away from thick seams |
| Creased print | Cap was not stretched smoothly | Tension the panel before pressing |
| Dull colour | Fabric is unsuitable | Confirm polyester content and test |
